Dental Implants Gold Coast

Missing teeth ruining your smile?

Dental implants are an ideal solution for replacing missing teeth! They mimic natural teeth in function, feel and appearance and unlike other tooth replacement alternatives, do not rely on adjacent teeth, metal clasps or adhesive gel for support, as they bond with the jawbone similar to a natural tooth root.

To experience the many benefits of dental implants, schedule a consultation appointment with one of the Robina Town Dental team on the Gold Coast, so we can help you regain a full and beautiful smile. Contact our friendly Gold Coast team on (07) 5575 9100 today.

Types of dental implants

There are different types of dental implants available and following a thorough examination we can select the right one depending on your personal needs.

Who needs dental implants?

A dental implant can be used to replace one, several or all your teeth. Implants are made of surgical grade titanium and can be either cylinders covered in small spheres or screw like in shape. A portion of the implant projects through the gums so the artificial teeth, usually either a crown or bridge can be secured to the implants.

To retain a full or partial denture, the implant may have a ball shaped head with the underside of the denture having an opposing socket with a rubber O-ring, which locks over the implant securing the denture in place. These are able to be removed the same as non-implant supported dentures so you can clean your denture and gums.

single tooth implant

Replacing a single tooth

Dental implants are an effective solution if you need to replace one tooth. The more traditional method of bridge work requires cutting down adjacent teeth to support the new bridge, which then makes it susceptible to caries, and may even cause the tooth to fall off completely. As a modern alternative to this procedure, dental implants preserve the bone and gum tissues around its placement, and does not affect any neighbouring teeth. They provide many advantages over other forms of tooth replacements, due to its long lasting material and its natural look and feel for patients.

multiple teeth implants

Replacing multiple teeth with a fixed bridge

When more than one tooth is either missing or damaged, multiple dental implants may be required as an implant-supported bridge. This method avoids the hassle involved with partial dentures, as it doesn’t require metallic clasps during the process. Fixed bridges result in better aesthetics and has no affect to adjacent teeth. Other benefits of bridges is the restoration of your mouth functionality, and preventing remaining teeth from moving out of position. The result is a convenient solution for patients that enhances the quality of life and keep your teeth healthy.

complete dentures

Support and retention of a complete denture

Dental implants are the most effective way to retain and support a complete denture, especially for the lower jaw. Dentures that fit poorly affect the ability to chew and speak. This process involves two to four dental implants with attachments or a bar, to keep the denture firmly in place. The procedure has no harmful impact to how your teeth and jaw normally work, meaning that you can still eat comfortably, and smile with ease.

edentulous jaw

Fixed restoration of a completely edentulous jaw

Patients with a completely edentulous jaw (completely toothless) can now avoid the hassle associated with removable dentures. Removable dentures are an old-fashioned method, with a lot more viable solutions available for patients nowadays. Supported by eight or more implants, a fixed restoration (a bridge) is the ultimate solution for those who wish to improve their chewing ability and enjoy better quality of life.

Dental implant procedures

Receiving dental implants requires meticulous preparation and a skilled hand. The procedure is conducted under local anaesthetic to ensure complete comfort, with patients often returning to work or their normal routine the next day.

A minor incision made in your gum is sometimes required so a pilot-hole can be prepared in the jawbone and then your implant is guided into position as determined during your planning appointments.

Sometimes the permanent artificial teeth can be placed on the implants immediately. Usually a period of healing between 2 and six months is required before the permanent teeth should be placed, temporary teeth maybe placed during this time if required for appearance reasons.

Dental implants require a certain amount of bone for stability. While it is possible to place implants at the same appointment as removing a tooth if conditions are right, other times a period of time is first required for the bone to heal. In some circumstances artificial bone will need to be added to help support the implants.

With any procedure, even a minor one such as a dental implant, there are associated risks. Your co-operation and following the advice of our dental team as well as quitting smoking can minimise these risks and contribute to the success and longevity of your implant treatment.

Dental implants have a very high success rate but just like your natural teeth they are still susceptible to infection caused by plaque, tartar build-up and gum disease.
